Piotr Skiba

Piotr Skiba is an artist using the following media: film, installation, performance, artistic objects, photography and painting. In 2006, he graduated from the Fine Arts University in Wrocław. Since 2014, he has been working as lecturer in the Drawing Faculty II.

In his works, he touches on the problem of alienation in society. This alienation results from the fact that an individual cannot achieve the success as expected by those surrounding them, and consequently achieve the proper prestige. He is not interested in how the career is made but rather in how the sense of failure and rejection influences the human existence. Skiba creates cycles of works, often over the period of a few years, in which he combines different techniques such as painting, photography, objects and performance. His main artistic ploy is creation of suspension between literality and tangibility of the message conveyed versus the element of the game which is being played, through which the artist transfers onto he viewer the emotions and ethical stances which are the basis for his own actions.

The artist's works have been exhibited at solo shows (selection): Honky (Whitebox Art Center, New York 2014), Man, that negro stole my show!
